Double helping … a great egret feeds her chick at the St Augustine alligator farm zoological park, Florida. Photo: Ronen Tivony
My photograph of a Great Egret feeding fish to its chick was published in The Guardian’s “This Week in Wildlife” feature. I captured this moment at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm in Florida, where nesting season offers a rare and close-up view into the lives of some of North America’s most iconic wading birds.
The rookery at the Alligator Farm is one of the most accessible and productive bird photography locations in the southeastern U.S. Dozens of Great Egrets, Tricolored Herons, Roseate Spoonbills, and Wood Storks nest in the trees above the boardwalks, largely unbothered by human presence. This rare intersection of conservation, accessibility, and photographic opportunity allows for truly unique shots of birds in their natural behavior.
I’m honored that The Guardian selected this image for their feature. It’s always humbling to see my work highlighted alongside such remarkable moments from the animal kingdom.
