About Sandhill Cranes
Sandhill cranes are large, long‑legged birds known for their loud, bugling calls and elaborate courtship dances. Many populations migrate seasonally, using key stopover and wintering areas such as Bosque del Apache to rest and feed in shallow wetlands and agricultural fields.
About Bosque del Apache
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is a 57,000‑acre protected area along the Rio Grande in southern New Mexico, established in 1939 as a critical refuge for migratory birds. Each winter, tens of thousands of sandhill cranes, geese, and ducks gather in its managed wetlands and fields, making it one of North America’s premier bird‑watching and wildlife photography destinations.
