Alligator wildlife photography by South Florida photojournalist Ronen Tivony has been selected for the Louisville Art Association’s 31st National Photography Show, one of the longest-running juried photography exhibitions in the country.
The selected image captures an American alligator with its mouth wide open, reflected in the still water below. It was photographed at Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Florida, one of the most productive sites in South Florida for close-range wildlife encounters.
The exhibition runs May 23 through June 1, 2025, at the Louisville Arts Center in Louisville, Colorado. The juried show received more than 800 entries from photographers representing 27 states.
About the Alligator Photograph
The photograph was made from the boardwalk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, where calm water and clear sightlines create ideal conditions for alligator wildlife photography. A long telephoto lens compressed the scene, isolating the alligator against its own mirror-like reflection. The open mouth posture, a thermoregulation behavior common in Florida alligators during warm months, gave the image a raw, confrontational energy that translates well in a gallery setting.
American alligators are a conservation success story in Florida. Once listed as endangered, they were removed from the endangered species list in 1987 following decades of legal protection and habitat management. Today they are common throughout Florida’s freshwater wetlands, marshes, and canals, and are a frequent subject for wildlife photographers visiting the Everglades, Wakodahatchee Wetlands, and Orlando Wetlands.
About the Louisville Art Association National Photography Show
The Louisville Art Association has hosted its National Photography Show for more than 30 years. The annual juried exhibition draws entries from professional, fine art, and nature photographers across the United States. Work is selected by a single juror and displayed at the Louisville Arts Center in Louisville, Colorado, a city located approximately 20 miles northwest of Denver.
